How to Make Your Business More Energy Efficient
SOCAs priority is protecting small businesses. But no one is immune to the rising costs of utilities. Rises in electricity and natural gas are of particular concern.
SOCA is offering three distinct programs, two powered by Viridi and one powered by Community Energy Advisors, to help small businesses make the switch to green energy.
Below are brief descriptions of the programs. Read about SOCAs energy solutions in full here!
Viridi Wellness Program A Green Employee Benefit
Designed to help employees reduce their personal dependence on fossil fuels, this program allocates renewable energy certificates (RECs) to employees to help them reduce their carbon footprints and offset their electricity use at home.
Viridi purchases RECs on your businesss behalf and allocates them to employees to help them go green at home.
When 1,000 kWh of energy is generated by a renewable source, 1 REC is created and tracked through the energy grid. The average American household uses just under 1,000 kWh per month. So 1 REC generally covers one households monthly energy usage.

Energy-Efficient Benefits for Your Business
What are the benefits of favoring renewable energy over more traditional energy sources like natural gas and coal?
- The most prominent benefit is that renewable resources help consumers save money. The energy your business consumes impacts your bottom line. The less you spend on energy, the more money you will have to compete in the marketplace.
- Another benefit is that renewable energy is less harmful to the environment than fossil fuel sources. Carbon dioxide emissions are greatly reduced when renewable energy is used, meaning your businesss carbon footprint shrinks in size.
- A third benefit is that when your business uses renewable energy, it increases your marketability. Thats right, you can use green energy as a selling point! Customers will be more likely to buy from you if you use green energy. Just make sure you advertise your switch to renewable resources.
